Fraser Island
Separated from the mainland by a narrow channel, World Heritage
listed Fraser Island is the largest sand island
on Earth. Beautiful lush rainforest sit amongst gorgeous blue
freshwater lakes trapped 700 feet (212 metres) above sea level,
both are surrounded by endless white beaches.
For a great drive head north from Noosa to Double Island
Point via Teewah Beach (four wheel drive vehical required - permits
available from National Parks and Wildlife Offices or local Noosa
representatives). Tewantin provides access to the Noosa
River Ferry and then a vehicular barge. Alternatively
the highway takes you North to Maryborough and Urangun Boat Harbour.
A 4wd vehicle is required if you intend to self-drive around Fraser
Island.
The Native wildlife includes dingoes, echidnas, wallabies and
hundreds of birds including Kingfishers (the namesake of the
famous Kingfisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island), Peregrin Falcons
and many more.
Suitable for camping, bush- walking and four wheel driving,
Fraser Island is an Island of contrast. Cool forests - great
for bushwalking, freshwater lakes - perfect for swimming and
fishing and amazing white beaches. There are shipwrecks and
ancient Aboriginal sites if exploring and siteseeing are your
thing. Whilst over 200,000 people visit the island each year
it still feels deserted and offers privacy.

resort style accommodation.

will also arrange for four wheel drive hire for those who wish
to fly in. Accommodation ranges from motel units to houses and
flats.

Access by sea from Urangan Boat Harbour (where you can also
